Good Neighbors GTX (GNGTX) is off to a grand start!  Ending 2023 with an event at Cypress Creek Apartments (an Apartment Life facility) to serve the children with new socks, undies, hats, gloves, and coats. We served 50+ children and look forward to the next time we can serve at this complex.

As January hit, we were well into managing our storage facilities and collecting clothes for kids. Not only do we have a 15 x 10 climate-controlled storage facility, but we are also using half of one of co-founder’s garages. It is amazing how much product you can get into these spaces.

We have had many in- crisis families sent to us from local pastors, the Georgetown Housing Authority, Mommie Support Network, Starry and friends of GNGT. We have served a family who lost their home due to a fire by providing clothing, shoes, quits (via God is Sew ministry from Hill Country Bible Church for each family member and bikes, scooters, and helmets for the kids. We helped a single mom whose husband is temporarily out of the picture due to health reasons with diapers, clothing for 3 children ages 3 and under with newborn items, quilts for all family members, and some gift cards for groceries. Another family came to us who had lost many possessions in a flooded apartment. A single mom was referred to us who had two children ages 3 and under and a baby on the way. We were able to help her with clothing, new baby items, a quilt made especially for her newborn son, and gift cards for food.

In the end of February we had an event at Stone Haven Apartments (Housing Authority of GT) and served 40+ children with clothes, socks, underwear, coats and shoes.

The floodgates have opened for donations. Our friends are very generous with their gifts of clothing, gift cards, monetary donations through our website, Amazon Wish List purchases, cash, checks and prayers.

We are now meeting with anyone who will listen to us. 😊 Seriously, we were at the Non-Profit Fair at Sun City, have been to the Georgetown Collaborative, the Church of Christ Collaborative, met with the Pregnancy Help Center, Carver Development Center, Caring Place, WHO, the Housing Authority, representatives from a few local churches, neighbors, friends just getting the word out of what our faith-based non-profit is about and how they can help.

The founders have decided to suspend collection of “like-new” clothes and are looking at only new clothes and shoes donations. We have decided to campaign seasonally for donations so that we can serve more children with what we have. January through April we will collect t-shirts and shorts, May through July we will collect athletic shoes and August through October we will collect coats, hoodies, hats and gloves.  All through the year we will collect socks and underwear. We need sizes toddler through high school teen.

We have raised over $10,000.00 in donations (of all kinds) in the first 6 months of existence and have felt His presence in all we do.

It has been a grand 1st quarter 2024…we have only just begun. Stay tuned for another BLOG about our GNGTX Storytime to be unveiled in the 2nd quarter.
